Need help? We’ve got it covered.
Below, are popular Oxbridge Proofreading FAQs asked by customers before engaging the services of Oxbridge Proofreading. However, do email support@oxbridgeproofreading.co.uk if you have a specific question not answered here.
What is an ethical academic proofreading and editing service?
We promise not to interfere with the academic content and to only improve your academic English so that you express your own arguments, thoughts and ideas in good academic rigour. The work will always be your own and our editors will not make unnecessary changes. It is important to be wary of any company or website which say they will improve your arguments or content. This is not allowed by universities and is seen as plagiarism.
See our Ethical Proofreading Policy for more information.
I have dyslexia, will that cost me more?
Not at all. We’re delighted to support you. Oxbridge Proofreading is registered with and approved by DSA and can offer discounts to PhD students with Dyslexia or Dyspraxia. Please let us know your circumstances when completing the Free Quote Form.
Do you allow for UK English, US English, Canadian English and Australian English?
We work using UK English. However do contact us if you require any other iteration as we may be able to suggest where you would find support for your proofreading requirements.
English is not my native language, will this be an issue?
Provided your writing is coherent and can be understood this wouldn’t be a problem. However, we recommend you take advantage of our Free Sample service. That way we would be able to determine if there are any issues before you commit to Oxbridge Academic Proofreading or Oxbridge Business Proofreading services.
English is not my native language, will this cost more?

I have trouble getting my thoughts and concepts on paper in the right way – can you help?
Unfortunately our proofreaders and editors can only help if you are providing a finished document ready for either Academic Proofreading; Stylistic Proofreading and Editing; or our complete four-step Dissertation, Proofreading and Editing services. The service we provide is the ‘fine tuning’ of a written document. If you get in touch we can recommend where you may be able to source solutions to help you.
How do you choose which proofreader to use to proof my work?
Oxbridge Proofreading has specialists in nearly every academic discipline — making us the perfect solution for your Academic Proofreading needs. This comprehensive range of support enables us to match you with the most appropriate Proofreader for your chosen subject.
How can I check to make sure the quality is to a high standard before proceeding?
The best way to ensure this is to take advantage of our Free Sample service. It will demonstrate that we are experts in our field. For added reassurance, or if you don’t have time to wait for a free sample edit is to take a look at over 1,000 5* Reviews!
Should I choose Stylistic or standard proofreading?
Standard Proofreading checks spelling, punctuation and grammar. It will also pick up any small errors. Therefore it’s an excellent final check for you if your writing is already of a high standard.
If you need more detailed help for your submission, we recommend you choose Stylistic Proofreading and Editing. This service ensures your use of terminology and word choice is correct and consistent. Also, we check your flow is natural and logical; and that you have followed academic convention and guidelines.
How will you improve on what I wrote?
We improve your Academic writing by performing thorough and detailed checks on your work before you submit it for marking. Depending on which service you choose, our checks can pick up on errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, typography, style and flow.
However, it’s important to note that our academic integrity and ethical approach mean we will not change the content of your work beyond what we describe in our services.
Why do I need to get my work Proofread or edited?
It’s always advisable to get your work checked before submitting and many universities, including Oxford and Cambridge recommend using an Academic Proofreading service such as ours.
Your university (or other board of examiners) and academic supervisors will expect you to present your work in a way that allows them to understand your thoughts and arguments clearly.
Why should I choose Oxbridge Proofreading above other proofreading companies out there?
All our editors hold elite qualifications from the UK’s top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, so are the ideal choice to bring your writing to a higher standard in terms of spelling, grammar, punctuation, typography, style and flow. We also have over 1,000 5* Google Reviews from happy clients!
Oxbridge Proofreading helps Undergraduates and Master’s Students to identify errors in English expression in their work; helps PhD candidates to present their research with greater clarity; and assists Professional Academics in correcting the English in their journal articles and conference papers for publication.
Do you run plagiarism checks on my work and re-write any findings?

If we see a quotation that hasn’t been cited we will highlight for your attention.
